Frequently Asked Questions
Here’s a Q&A that covers some questions you probably have…
Q. How does your service stand out?
A. My goal is to always incorporate my client's personality in with my design aesthetic. It's my job to provide artistic direction, creativity and expertise to bring their wish list to life. I strive to ensure each of my designs are as unique as my client's personalities.
Q. What do you enjoy about the work you do?
A. I love having the opportunity to draw inspiration from different avenues. Everywhere I look there's something inspiring that can be translated into a design concept.
Q. Do you have a standard pricing system for your services?
A. My pricing system is based on the scope of the project. There are times when it's in the best interest of the client and myself to have a per-hour fee. Other projects call for a more encompassing fee structure based on a design fee.
Q. How did you get started doing this type of work?
A. I always had an interest in design but I didn't know it right away. I was naturally drawn to texture, color and pattern at a young age but I was never involved in the art of interior design. It wasn't until I finally decided to listen to that little voice telling me to explore it that I took the leap. Now I can't imagine doing anything else!
Q. What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
A. It's true that you get what you pay for. Interior design incorporates a wide variety of services that are essential to a successful project. Sourcing, purchasing, order management and delivery coordination are key components that take time and effort. Designers are responsible for more than just selecting a paint color! I offer accessibility to products that are to-the-trade only at competitive pricing. Clients are getting higher quality and unique pieces when using Hue Designs. It's important to find a designer you trust to guide you through the process. I take a client through each step of the process rather just expect them to understand the in’s and out’s of the design world. I also strive to manage expectations to keep my clients in the know with regards to quality, lead times, and the like.
Q. What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
A. Working with a designer is truly a process so I encourage my clients to realistically consider their goals, budgets and deadlines before we start. What are you trying to accomplish by hiring a professional? Hiring Hue Designs means you are hiring a design professional that will listen to your goals, interpret your design preferences to meld them into something that’s unique. It takes time but the reward is a space that reflects you in every way. Hue Designs offers a wide range of services so to fit your priorities and budgets. Let’s be honest, it's not all sparkles and throw pillows! Interior design is about space planning, flow, and the emotions that result from carefully thought-out plans.
Q. What if a client doesn’t need to design a room from scratch but has some key pieces in the room already? Can you still help them?
A. Of course! I offer a range of services tailored to my client’s needs. Not every project is a blank slate and budgets are a key component. Creatively, I find it fulfilling to be able to come up with different ways to pull a room together. I can consult on reusing existing furniture and I will be honest if there’s a better way to solve your design dilemma.
Q. What is the biggest misconception about hiring an interior designer?
A. That’s an interesting question. I think a misconception is that it’s easy. Interior design takes a lot of planning and sometimes it’s not the first idea that’s the best one. Hiring a designer can also act as a sounding board to prevent purchasing items that won’t work in the space. It’s very important to follow the plan though. If a major piece changes, the rest of the design concept will too. I encourage clients to send me pictures of anything they “love” while they were out at the stores before making any purchases. Design is discipline and that moment of stepping back to make sure it will work in the scheme is vital to the overall success of the project. Although a client might absolutely fall in love with the jewel toned velvet tufted settee in an amazing showroom, I might have to gently tell them it will not fit their design goals. BUT, if it does, let’s do it!
Q. What about delivery times and if your clients aren’t happy with the products once they are in house?
A. Delivery delays are unfortunately inevitable given the nature of a business involving product lead-times, workrooms, shipping and scheduling. But I do my best to communicate with my clients and manage expectations. I want you to be happy with the overall experience! I take time to discuss the lead times, potential delays, and the fact items are not returnable before placing any order. It’s important to know your pieces take time and are made to order. They will make a big difference in the design but it does require patience! With anything new, it takes a period to time for the eye to adjust. Since I do not stock items, I am at the mercy of the availability, delivery times, and warranties of the vendors. Purchases are non-returnable.
